High-quality

The paints can be used straight from the bottle as they are, especially for more powerful effects. Additionally, you may want to add in some pigments and ISA ashes or coal to adjust your hue, tone as well as paint structure.

The Application How-To

There are various types of applications and they depend on your workbench, the finish you want to achieve and more. All methods should be tested and practiced on paper first. I suggest trying it with cheap watercolor (better for your wallet) first. Add some dust or our cheap 200g ash particles into it, to make the paint a bit thicker at almost no cost. This saves you a lot of money now and in the long run. We have provided a few how-to styles to apply these weathering products and how to achieve great results.

How-To: Brush only Application (Splashes and Sprinkles)

  1. Put cardboard or sth behind your model to protect the area behind it
  2. Orient part or model in direction of splashes
  3. Start with light colors first
  4. Use an old and very short and wide brush ( cut excess length)
  5. Load a brush with the paint mixture
  6. Remove excess paint
  7. Flip with your index finger or however so desired on the brush to shoot paint onto the model
  8. Repeat with a darker color

Splashes of mud, soil or lightly discolored water are made easy with this method. its quite straightforward and quick to implement. Use on vehicles like tanks, AFVs, airplanes, figures and buildings. Accessories and small structures on roadsides also benefit from this technique.

How-To: ISA Method with Airbrush (for spilled oil and water-like effects)

  1. Put cardboard or sth behind your model to protect the area behind it
  2. Start with light colors first
  3. Use a small or medium-size brush
  4. Load brush with the paint mixture
  5. Remove excess paint
  6. Paint on the model in layers
  7. NOW: Orient part or model in direction of spillage
  8. Use the airbrush at 90 degrees to blow paint from the center outwards (super low PSI but close)
  9. Do this multiple times but let the layers dry in between steps. For water surfaces and water rings, reduce PSI for each new layer, to shoot it less and less to the sides.

Ideal for knocked over fuel, water or oil barrels that spilled a larger area or water surfaces. If you apply the paint along a weld, panel or roof line of the model, you can blow it along the whole surface and achieve a uniform and subtle effect. Again, practice first on paper or scrap styrene.

Application with Airbrush (for mud splashes on vehicles and tanks)

  1. Put cardboard or sth behind your model to protect the area behind it
  2. Orient part or model in direction of splashes
  3. Start with light colors first
  4. Use a medium-size and old brush
  5. Load a brush with the paint mixture
  6. Remove excess paint
  7. Use desired distance from the brush to the model and airbrush respectively. Try on paper fir
  8. Use the airbrush to blow paint from the brush onto the scale model
  9. Repeat with a darker color

Direct Application for stains, spills grease, grime and filth

  1. Orient part or model as desired
  2. Start with light colors first
  3. Use a small or medium-size brush
  4. Load brush with the paint mixture
  5. Remove excess paint
  6. Paint on the model in layers
  7. Repeat with a darker color

Bash up your engine bays, grease up the locomotive gear and journal boxes, add grime dust and filth to your rolling stock buffers and couplings. The weathering possibilities are endless. Aircraft engines, radiators as well as the hydraulic cylinders of the carriage are prime targets for the above methods and materials.
